Professional Development

We bring Shobana’s artistic perspective to professionals of the dance world, from school teachers to young dancers starting in their professional career. We are committed to welcoming and nurturing new voices within our company.

Continuous Professional Development - CPD for dance teachers and INSET days

Our dancers and educators are trained to deliver CPD and INSET days in schools, in venues or online. These engaging sessions offer teachers a space to update their own practice, develop new skills, gain confidence in choreography and use contemporary dance more effectively in the classroom or studio. We also offer CPD to primary schools wanting to include dance as part of the PE curriculum.

‘Such a wonderful opportunity to hear the intention behind the work and be given such detailed feedback on the quality of the choreography – so helpful for assisting me to lead the students through Jeyasingh’s work’! – year 12 teacher

Postgraduate Apprenticeship Scheme

Shobana Jeyasingh Dance apprenticeships provide graduate dancers with first-hand experience of working with a professional company, either as a trainee dancer in the studio or a facilitator on our Creative Learning programme. This year we will work in partnership with the Northern School of Contemporary Dance to deliver the apprenticeship programme for MA Contemporary Dance students. For more details of the Postgraduate Apprenticeship Scheme please click here.

Placements: for secondary school, college or university students

Whenever possible, and depending on our company schedule, we are happy to have work experience students, internships or placements take place within our company. We are usually able to welcome two to three short term placements a year.

Contact Alice for more information, or to submit a request.

Intensives: for dance graduates or early stage career professionals

Once a year, we offer a week-long intensive for young professional dancers to join our company and rehearsal director in the studio. Together, they engage with Shobana’s artistic delivery and realisation through class, creative tasks and workshops. We also introduce young professionals to the reality of working in the dance industry and how a contemporary dance company operates.

‘Really, really amazing opportunity. The privilege to work with these artists and gain insight into the company was amazing’ – Winter Intensive participant
