Shobana Jeyasingh Dance has always had a strong commitment to providing development opportunities for dance professionals. Below is a summary of our past professional development initiatives:
Continuous Professional Development – CPD for dance teachers and INSET days
These engaging sessions offered teachers a space to update their own practice, develop new skills, gain confidence in choreography and use contemporary dance more effectively in the classroom or studio. We also offered CPD to primary schools wanting to include dance as part of the PE curriculum.
“Such a wonderful opportunity to hear the intention behind the work and be given such detailed feedback on the quality of the choreography – so helpful for assisting me to lead the students through Jeyasingh’s work!” – year 12 teacher
Placements
We welcomed secondary school, college or university students for two to three short term placements a year.
Intensives
Once a year, we offered a week-long intensive for dance graduates or early stage career professionals to join our company and rehearsal director in the studio. Together, they engaged with Shobana’s artistic delivery and realisation through class, creative tasks and workshops. We also introduced young professionals to the reality of working in the dance industry and how a contemporary dance company operates.
“Really, really amazing opportunity. The privilege to work with these artists and gain insight into the company was amazing” – Winter Intensive participant
