We are delighted to announce that Shobana Jeyasingh Dance will be taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021 (Tues 30 Nov to Tues 7 Dec) to raise funds towards our exciting new production. We would love you to join us!.
COUNTDOWN TO THE BIG GIVE CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE 2021
The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021 is a fundraising campaign where every donation made via the Big Give website between midday Tuesday 30 November and midday Tuesday 7 December is doubled until we reach our target. That means for every pound you donate we’ll receive two pounds at no extra cost to you. Our target is to raise £7,000, which will be doubled by our generous matched funding pledgers, and means the company receives a fantastic £14,000 plus Gift Aid.
Put the dates in your diary and head to the Big Give website so you can donate from midday 30 November.
What will your donation support?
All money raised during the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021 will be used towards the making and touring of our next major production – Clorinda Agonistes, which is co-produced by Sadler’s Wells London.
Clorinda Agonistes is a dramatic and powerful work that weaves contemporary dance, baroque and new music, and film to create a story that explores violence, resilience and revelation across the boundaries of time, culture and religion.
It is inspired by the heroine of Claudio Monteverdi’s celebrated work Il Combattimento, the proud and fiery Muslim warrior Clorinda who refuses to reveal her name.
In this retelling of Clorinda’s story, Monteverdi’s heroine not only fights Tancredi the Crusader but also becomes symbolic of women engaging in and caught up in the struggles of the Middle East today. In this bravura act of time travel the beauty of Monteverdi’s baroque gives way to a specially composed score by celebrated Syrian American composer Kareem Roustom whose music is played live by a string quartet and incorporates the haunting voice of Syrian contralto Dima Osho.
The cast included rising star dancer Jemima Brown and acclaimed tenor Ed Lyon. The live music is conducted by Robert Hollingworth, founder and director of the renowned I Fagiolini.
The work has been through rigorous research and development over the past two years and the final production and stunning stage design will continue until the production is toured nationally in summer and autumn 2022.
When can I donate?
For donations to be eligible for matched funding they need to be made between midday Tuesday 30th November until midday Tuesday 7th December. All donations need to be made via the BigGive website.
What happens if the £7,000 target isn’t met?
Unlike some fundraising initiatives this isn’t a make it or lose it situation. If we don’t meet the £7,000 we’ll still receive all of the donations made and all of the donations will be doubled.
What happens if the £7,000 target is exceeded?
All donations over £7,000 will be received and will support Clorinda Agonistes, but anything over £7,000 cannot be doubled. If we overachieve our target we could be eligible for special monetary awards from Big Give, so please keep the donations coming in! When you are donating you’ll be able to see how much money we’ve already raised through the challenge.
Can I give via another platform, by cheque or by phone?
All donations made through The Big Give Challenge website will support Clorinda Agonistes, and will be match funded. However we appreciate any and all gifts! Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
