Participation

During the making process of Counterpoint, the 20 dancers engaged with five West London community groups. These were:

Dream Arts youth dance group
ENB adult ballet group
Hestia Housing and Support women's group
Paddington Arts children's dance group
Portugal Prints service user group

Many of the participants in these groups had never danced before or encountered contemporary dance in any form. All took part in workshops that 'lifted the lid', both on Shobana's artistic process, as well as introduced some of the movement ideas in Counterpoint. Many of the participants then came to see a performance at Somerset House. After the performance some even had a go at some of the material they had learned and seen in the fountains!
