Sooraj Subramaniam


Sooraj Subramaniam began training at the Sutra Dance Theatre, Malaysia, in Bharatanatyam, Odissi, classical ballet and contemporary dance forms. He graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) from the Western Australian Academy for Performing Arts. Concurrently, he co-directed Mudhra Dance Company based in Perth, Western Australia, teaching and performing Indian classical and contemporary dance.

Since 2007 Sooraj has been working with London-based Srishti Nina Rajarani Dance Creations, being featured in all their major productions. He has added Kathak to his training with Urja Desai Thakore. In 2011 he presented his own contemporary work, Nocturne, for Resolution! at The Place. He has also presented a range of classical and contemporary work for Akademi, and has performed with Balbir Singh Dance Company at the Dublin Dance Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2011), and at Tanzmesse, Düsseldorf (2012). Since moving to Belgium he has had solos created for him by independent choreographers Nicole Kohler in Gent, Belgium, and by Kalpana Raghuraman, Brussels, on commission by Korzo Theatre, The Hague.

Sooraj joined Shobana Jeyasingh Dance for Classic Cut in 2012.
