New Production

An intriguing new production in two halves from choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh – a revisiting of the past and a bold step into the new.

Classic Cut presents Configurations, a work celebrated and enthusiastically reviewed for bravura use of speed and stunning detail. In revisiting this 1989 collaboration with iconic composer Michael Nyman, Jeyasingh provides us with a unique glimpse into a pioneering work from the very beginning of her Company's life and an insight into an inspirational collaboration between choreographer and composer (captured in an hour-long Channel Four documentary at the time). Nyman's score (which became his acclaimed String Quartet No. 2) will be played live on stage at selected venues.

Alongside this, Jeyasingh will present an atmospheric new work (as yet untitled) that will draw on the dramatic and colourful theatrical genre of classic Indian dance. It will feature newly commissioned music from young Indian composer and sound artist Niraj Chag whose credits include Rafta Rafta for The National Theatre and the BAFTA-nominated Simon Schama's Power of Art series for BBC2.
